Fuerza Femenina

The city of Medellín, Colombia consists of only 30% urban area, with the other 70% being rural. The territory of Altavista is a part of one of these rural sections; it is a main thoroughfare for drugs and weapons smuggling, with the expected violence, danger, and unsavory reputation. Altavista does not have the sustainability that has been implemented in other areas. There is a group of women, open to all, who have named themselves Fuerza Femenina. Each week they gather, talk, grieve, and process — all while producing beautiful crafts to sell. Their profits go toward building their community. They have recently built a museum with their funds, and are currently working to build a schoolhouse, as well as homes for those in the community.
